On 1st May we headed to The Red Lion in Henley on Thames for English born Daniel and Lithuanian born Elze's Wedding. Perched on the banks of the River Thames, The Red Lion was originally an old Coaching Inn between London and Oxford and dates back over 600 years so was filled with history and artefacts.
Dan and Elze had booked Taylormade Acoustic Duo to be a part of their special day and we set up in the Isis Suite to perform during their Wedding Breakfast. It was really sweet to see Dan and Elze seated on a table for just the two of them facing out to all of their guests. A fun and less formal arrangement than the traditional long top table at the end of the room.
We started performing as the first guests entered from the receiving line to add a beautiful atmosphere as guests take their seats for the Wedding Breakfast.
WEDDING TIP: If you are going to have a receiving line then, depending on exact numbers, you should factor in around 30 minutes to greet all of your guests. There can be quite a wait for the first guests that go through so you could have an acoustic set during the receiving line to keep guests entertained and to create a lovely atmosphere. The acoustic duo is not intrusive so still allows you to chat and greet your guests with ease, but has the unmistakable spark that only live music can bring.
Dan and Elze had requested some beautiful choices for the set and we performed them as they enjoyed their first meal together as Husband and Wife. We played songs such as Songbird by Eva Cassidy. Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran and Cannonball by Damien Rice.
Moving into speeches both English and Lithuanian traditions were being kept. The Mother of the Bride's speech was presented in both English and Lithuanian and it was a wonderful to see these two families come together despite the language barrier.
For their First Dance Dan and Elze had asked us to perform Norah Jones' song 'Come Away With Me' and it was a beautiful moment as they took the floor for the first time as Mr and Mrs Maskell. Elze had even changed into a stunning sequinned evening gown for the dance. They had been working with a dance teacher to a choreographed routine and despite being a little nervous they absolutely nailed it!
We then went into our second set with some livelier tracks to get everyone warmed up and ready for the DJ. Dan and Elze had chosen feel good tracks like You're The One That I Want from Grease and A Little Respect by Erasure both of which got everyone on their feet and wailing away on the dance floor!
The night continued with a packed dance floor and some fun with silly games for the newlyweds and giggles all around.
Finishing the night with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne, as is tradition in Lithuania, brought an end to this lovely couple's day and we wish them all the very best for their lives together.
